Stole the idea for this post (and its name) from my mom's blog.
A few weeks ago, Emmitt and I noticed a new shop in the Fort Union shopping area.
We didn't have any idea what it was and I was driving so I had Emmitt google it. Turns out it's a doughnut shop!
From what I read, it looks like they do glazed doughnuts with fancy frostings.
Oh my. Look at those. They are seriously good looking doughnuts. Ever since looking at those doughnuts, I've been drawn to them.
Finally, after driving by every night on my way home, I decided to stop in.
efore walking in, I noticed they were closing in ten minutes. Dang. They may not have much at the end of the day.
I am so glad I continued inside.
The man working was incredibly nice and let me know they could make almost any doughnut I wanted if I didn't see it in the case. Ten minutes before closing! What a guy.
I ordered a half dozen so Emmitt and I could do a tasting.
(Top row, left to right: lemon meringue, royal mint, peanut butter swirl.
Bottom row, left to right: cookies & cream, key lime crumble, s'mores.)
We decided to cut each one in half, take a bite and then try the next one. We learned last time to not eat too much of each flavor:)
First up, key lime!
Oh good golly. That is GOOD. It's not a sugary sweet candy lime flavor; that is real lime flavor folks, and goodness, I want more. Great first choice.
Next on the menu, cookies & cream.
Again, a very good doughnut. This one was a more subtle flavor but still delicious. Exactly what I want from a cookies & cream glazed doughnut.
Next, peanut butter swirl.
Very creamy peanut butter, for some reason my mouth was expecting Reese's but that's not what this was. It honestly was like an off-brand peanut butter turned into frosting. It was good, just not super sweet. My mouth loves super sweet.
Next one...royal mint!
First thing I have to mention on this one is the fudge. Good heavens. I wish I had a vat of that fudge. I would roll around in that vat for days. The mint was also delicious, just not what I was expecting. They reminded me of those Christmas cream cheese mints. You can see my mom's in the second picture over here.
Next up, lemon meringue.
This one got a second bite out of Emmitt...well, Emmitt took a second bite of it:)
He said it was by far his favorite. He loved the extra frosting filling the hole. I liked it. It wasn't as bold as the lime one we tried first, but I liked it.
Last one to try, s'mores!
I saved this for last because it was the one that really got me in the door. I LOVE s'mores and I was excited. I'm glad I saved it for last because it was my favorite. I again got the wonderful fudge my mouth has been missing since that bite of the earlier doughnut so that made me happy. The marshmallow was great, not too sticky. The graham cracker crumb added a nice texture on top.
Weirdly, it didn't remind my mouth of s'mores. Like, at all. It was just fudge and marshmallow on a glazed. Extremely delicious, but it was lacking that campfire feel.
Overall, I'm beyond thrilled with my decision to try these doughnuts. The s'mores doughnut is what got me in the shop and it (plus that key lime) will keep me coming back. I highly recommend giving them a try.
